June 30, 2024

So I am promising myself that I will make sure to write down some of my accomplishments, goals and perhaps a silly story or two here in my blog. In the past I have not carried out promises like this reasoning with myself that no one really cares what I think or what I’ve been up to. I’ve voiced this opinion to several of my artist friends and they have assured me that yes, people do care and that they want to hear what I have to say. Well, we will see about that. In the meantime, I am going to hold up my end of this bargain and get on with it.

I’m attempting to create this website on my own. Since I’m frugal, not cheap mind you, but frugal, I am attempting what seemed insurmountable a year ago. I wanted something simple and to the point and I hope I’ve achieved that. So that has been my big adventure of the day……creating this website. Please be kind in your criticisms. I want to learn from them, not get hurt by them. Thank you for using some of your precious time reading this. I really do appreciate it.

And if by any chance you would like to reach out to me, my email address is hendricabrouwers@gmail.com, you can find me on Facebook @ rita.brouwers and on Instagram @brouwersrita

July 8, 2024

I had such a good week. Very busy, but good. It was my granddaughter Claire’s birthday on the 6th of July. I spent Wednesday, Thursday and part of Friday which were the three days leading up to her birthday with them at their home in Arkell. Chloe, Claire and I kept busy staying out of Emma’s way since she works from home and had a fairly busy workload. I had such a good time with them playing hide the golf balls, hide and seek, playing with Barbies, and playing board games. We visited my mother and had a MacDonalds lunch. We were even joined by my brother John and sister Trudy. Lots of fun!!! Needless to say I was pretty tired when I got home. I had to get home and load up the van to be in Stratford for Art in the Park early Saturday and Sunday morning. I was dragging my butt loading everything up, getting ready for a weekend of selling my art in the park. I was doing a lot of internal whining. It’s too hot……I don’t feel like talking to all those people………I didn’t have enough time to make some new pieces…… I’m too tired to get up at 6 am……poor Stewy, what will he do all day without us……and on and on and on……..

Anyway, we went and since I’m really not a morning person, the drive to Stratford was very quiet. It’s so funny how when you really dread doing something, it so often turns out to be such a completely positive experience. I had the best weekend sales wise since I started participating in this seasonal event. I also met so many wonderful people and had so many delightful conversations including quests to the park and with my fellow artists. I left my home feeling tired and cranky and I got home feeling happy and completely uplifted!! That brings me to my positive rant about the other artists there. There are new artists, there are artists who have participated for a few years (like myself), there are artists there that have participated for 30 to 50 years. I find myself surrounded by the beautiful, breathtaking artwork created by these talented individuals and surrounded by their laughter, encouragement, and the occasional off coloured joke (heehee), all the while being absolutely surrounded by positive energy. Speaking of off coloured jokes, my brother John, his wife Muriel, my sister Trudy and her husband Leon came for a visit on Saturday afternoon. All I can say is “Good God!”. I am a very fortunate lady!

So next weekend I will try not to be so whiny and instead feel a pleasant anticipation of all the good stuff to come.
